Benzaldehyde Key Features

Unique aromatic properties

The core value of benzaldehyde lies in its natural bitter almond aroma. At low concentrations, this aroma imparts a pleasant nutty, cherry-like flavor to food and chemical products. It is a key ingredient in blending almond and cherry fragrances, giving products a naturally soft scent that is virtually irreplaceable.

High reactivity

Due to the presence of an aldehyde group in its molecule, benzaldehyde exhibits extremely high reactivity. It can participate in a variety of organic reactions, such as oxidation, reduction, and condensation, providing a wide range of applications for pharmaceutical intermediates and fragrance synthesis.

High substitutability across multiple fields

C7H6O can be used as a key raw material for the synthesis of benzoic acid, cinnamic acid and their ester compounds, and has multiple applications in the plastics additives, dyes and resins industries.

Mature industrial production

The compound has a mature industrial production process and a wide range of raw material sources, ensuring a stable supply chain and cost control, making it suitable for bulk purchasing.

Benzaldehyde Main Applications

Fragrance industry

Benzaldehyde is a key ingredient in the formulation of fragrances and food flavorings, commonly used in cherry, almond, and strawberry scents, and also in cosmetics, perfumes, and other daily chemical products. For example, it is used to add special aromas to soaps and everyday fragrances.

Pharmaceutical and chemical synthesis

As a pharmaceutical intermediate, benzaldehyde can be used to synthesize phenylethanol, benzoic acid, hypnotics, and antibacterial drugs. Its active structure makes it a key node in many organic synthetic routes.

Resin and dye manufacturing

This compound is widely used in the fields of synthetic resins, alkyd resins, and azo dyes, and can improve the gloss and stability of materials.

Pesticide and preservative industry

C7H6O acts as an intermediate in certain pesticide formulations, and can also be used as a preservative and solvent to increase product durability and antioxidant properties.

Precautions

  1. Store in a cool, ventilated, dry warehouse away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. Benzaldehyde is easily oxidized and should be stored in a sealed container to prevent the formation of benzoic acid.

  2. This product is irritating to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract, and is toxic if ingested. It must be handled in a fume hood, with chemical goggles, chemical-resistant gloves, and a suitable respirator worn, and inhalation of its vapors must be avoided.

  3. If you accidentally inhale benzaldehyde vapor, move to fresh air immediately. If it comes into contact with skin, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical attention.

  4. If a leak occurs, it can be treated with inert absorbent materials (such as sand or diatomaceous earth) and cleaned up promptly.

FAQ

1. Why are white crystals or cloudiness appearing in the benzaldehyde liquid I purchased?

This is almost certainly due to the product being exposed to air, causing some of the benzaldehyde to oxidize into benzoic acid. Benzoic acid has very low solubility in water, so white crystals will precipitate even in the presence of trace amounts of moisture. The purity of this product has decreased, and it is not recommended for applications requiring high purity.

2. Is it a natural fragrance?

Some benzaldehyde can be naturally extracted from bitter almonds and cinnamon oil, but industrial production mostly uses a synthetic route. The difference between natural and synthetic lies mainly in the source; it does not affect the aroma or chemical properties.
